Sringeri, June 21: As part of the International Yoga Day celebrations, Sri Sharada Dhanvantari Ayurveda Hospital, in association with Sharada Nursing Institute, organized a special yoga programme at the Multipurpose Hall of Sharada Nursing Institute.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Suhas H. D., Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Sri Sharada Dhanvantari Ayurveda Hospital, by lighting the ceremonial lamp. The event was attended by Mr. Abraham, Principal of Sharada Nursing Institute and Prof. Karthik, who were present on the dais.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Suhas H. D. highlighted the significance of yoga and explained the principles of Ashtanga Yoga. He stated that Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, and Dhyana (Meditation) are among the key components of yoga that play a vital role in maintaining physical and mental well-being.

He explained that Yama refers to social discipline, while Niyama denotes personal discipline. Asanas help the body remain comfortable, flexible, and adaptable in various situations.
Pranayama, by extending and regulating the breathing process, enhances oxygen supply to the body’s cells, aiding cellular purification and enabling better control over respiration.
Dr. Suhas further elaborated that Dhyana (Meditation) is derived from the words Dhi and “Yana,” meaning an inward journey through intellect and awareness. He noted that meditation helps develop mental clarity, concentration, and a deeper understanding of both known and unknown aspects of life.
Experienced yoga instructors Padmini and Varsha conducted practical sessions on various yoga postures and pranayama techniques for doctors, nursing staff, and nursing students. Participants were encouraged to adopt yoga as a part of their daily routine to lead a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.
Doctors, staff members, and students of the institution actively participated in the programme and gained valuable insights into the importance and benefits of yoga.
